Here at both Ashleworth CofE Primary School and Churcham Primary School, we ensure that children are engaged with their Computing skills by providing fun, practical and engaging lessons. Our whole-school scheme which we use here is ‘Purple Mash’. On this page, you will find the overviews for ‘Purple Mash’ and all resources that you will need to support your child with their Computing skills. Following Purple Mash, we use a ‘chimp, gibbon and gorilla’ approach; this means that the Computing work would start with simple coding and tasks, to then get progressively more chalenging. This approach allows the child to be slowly scaffolded to experience the challenge of the ‘gorilla’ problems.
As well as our Computing lessons, Ashleworth and Churcham continue to incorporate Computing into other subjects by using up-to-date laptops and ipads within lessons to record our work. We also hold fantastic Computing days, including inviting the STEM team in to carry out ‘KNEX challenge’, Lego Coding days and, of course, e-safety days. We hold an annual internet safety day, although we incorporate e-safety into our every day teaching. The children love to all work together during these days and we feel these Computing Days encourage children to enjoy this subject and become more engaged.
Both schools offer a wide selection of resources for the children to use to support their learning. We offer lots of practical, concrete resources such as Bee-Bots, iPads, Laptops, mouse and of couse, Purple Mash. Purple Mash can be used in school during lessons, but it can also be used at home where the children can access a range of resources on the application; thus helping them with other subjects within the whole curriculum. The children are also able to be offered a range of Computing volcabulary word mats to support their understanding of each topic within the Computing curriculum (see attached file).
In order to ensure that we have covered the Computing curriulum, we have developed a rolling program to teach topics at certain times of the year – please see our overviews relating to Purple Mash, below for each year group:
Gloucestershire County Council Consultation on the closure of Ashleworth C of E Primary with effect from 1 April 2027
What are we proposing for Ashleworth C of E Primary and why
Ashleworth C of E Primary is a 4-11 Church of England voluntary controlled primary school.
The school currently offers 8 Reception places each year with a total capacity for 56 pupils. In May 2026 there were 15 pupils in attendance, however, as of 1 September 2026, there were no pupils on roll.
Families are choosing alternative schools in the local area, and the ongoing low numbers of pupils have limited what the school can offer in terms of a broad, balanced and effective education and an appropriate peer group. The social development of pupils is a key issue.
An Ofsted inspection in March 2026 (report June 2026) placed the school in special measures. If a school is placed in special measures, it means that Ofsted has judged that the school is not providing an acceptable standard of education. This does not mean a school is unsafe, nor that children should move schools, but it does mean that aspects of the school’s provision require urgent action.
As a result, Gloucestershire County Council considers that the school is no longer viable and is now seeking feedback on a proposal to close the school as of 1 April 2027.
What happens next?
Responses received will be put together into a report for the Cabinet Member for Education and Skills. She will then consider everything that people have said to help decide on the future of Ashleworth C of E Primary School.
If the Cabinet Member decides that the best option is to close the school, Gloucestershire County Council will publish a statutory notice with proposals for the school to close on 1 April 2027. There will then be a further 4-week period for people to respond to the proposal before a final decision is made in February/March 2027.
