'Respected and nurtured for uniqueness'
"Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." — 1 Timothy 4:12
At Ashleworth C of E Primary School, we believe every child is a gift—unique, capable, and full of promise. Rooted in our Christian vision of Respect, nurture and uniqueness, we nurture a culture where differences are celebrated, individuality is honoured, and every member of our school community feels seen, heard, and valued. Our curriculum is designed to help every child flourish academically, socially, and spiritually.
Our curriculum is ambitious for all pupils. It is built on three core principles:
We teach a carefully sequenced curriculum that builds knowledge over time. Concepts are revisited and deepened so pupils develop secure understanding, confidence, and curiosity. Learning is purposeful and rooted in real-life contexts, enriched through trips, visitors, and experiences that bring the world to life.
As a small school, we know our pupils as individuals. Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of mixed-age classes, ensuring appropriate challenge, support, and progression for all. It is inclusive and empowering, offering meaningful learning experiences that help children discover their strengths, passions, and potential.
We nurture character as well as knowledge. Through our values and ethos, children learn to care for others, act with integrity, and contribute positively to their community. We encourage pupils to ask big questions, reflect on their place in the world, and develop a strong moral compass.
We deliver our curriculum through:
Clear progression in every subject, ensuring pupils build on prior learning and develop deep understanding over time.
High-quality teaching that adapts to mixed-age classes while maintaining high expectations for all.
Rich vocabulary development, enabling pupils to articulate their thinking and access complex ideas.
Hands-on, practical learning that supports engagement and deepens understanding.
Regular retrieval practice to strengthen memory and long-term learning.
Strong subject leadership, with Subject Leaders shaping and refining the curriculum through ongoing monitoring, reflection, and innovation.
A broad range of experiences, including outdoor learning, the arts, sport, and opportunities to explore nature and the wider world.
Our approach is responsive and compassionate. Children who need additional support receive tailored interventions that help them grow at their own pace, in ways that suit their individual learning styles. Those ready for greater challenge are stretched and encouraged to deepen their understanding and extend their skills.
We know our curriculum is successful when:
Pupils achieve well and make strong progress from their starting points.
Pupils can talk confidently about their learning, using subject-specific vocabulary.
Pupils demonstrate curiosity, resilience, collaboration, and a love of learning.
Pupils show kindness, respect, and a strong sense of belonging to our school family.
Pupils leave Ashleworth with the confidence to make thoughtful decisions, reflect on their learning, and embrace the world as lifelong learners.
As a Church of England school, our curriculum is underpinned by our Christian ethos. We celebrate diversity, encourage reflection, and help children understand the importance of compassion, justice, and stewardship. Our curriculum prepares pupils not only for academic success but for life in a diverse and changing world.
