RE Visit - Hindu Experience
Lesson: Religious education
Class: Class 2 Year: 2025 - 2026
In June, children from Class 2 were invited to join with their friends at Churcham School to explore the topic of Hinduism, as part of the Key Stage 2 Religious Education syllabus.
The Hindu guests had worked hard to create an immersive experience for the children, with the classroom decorated and almost unrecognisable beneath beautiful Indian fabrics, colourful garlands of silk flowers, and a temple setting with Hindu Deities including Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesha and Lakshmi.
During the event the children used Indian puppets to recount stories they had heard in their lessons and were invited to dress in the Hindu clothes and headgear to represent the Gods. They worked in pairs to perform a rhythmic 'stick dance' or Dandiya and later took part in a 'Question and Answer' session, where they learned so much about following the Hindu faith. The experience ended with the children choosing painted Diya tealight lamps, which are used in Diwali - the Hindu festival of lights.
